For a woman facing an unplanned pregnancy, her first appointment at Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic is designed to meet her with what she needs in that moment—unexpected compassion, information, and hope. 

But her first appointment is only the beginning of the support she truly needs. 

In the fog of overwhelm and uncertainty, a woman often believes that abortion is her only option. Often, Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic surprises her by the amount of resources and support available that she did not know existed. 

The First Appointment: Leading with Compassion and Trusting God with Each Outcome

The first appointment is mutually critical for clients and the team at Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic. For the client, the first appointment has the potential to leave her with a lasting impression, and we want that impression to be one of Christ-like compassion and trustworthiness—for her to know that we are a resource of real support. For Two Lines, the first appointment may be the only appointment, and it serves as an opportunity to assess a woman’s circumstances to help determine what support can be offered that would empower her as a mother to choose life. 

After providing pregnancy test results and conducting an assessment, Two Lines provides follow-up education and recommendations, which can include another appointment, a referral to specialized obstetric and gynecological care, an invitation to attend pregnancy and parenting classes, or a recommendation to enroll in long-term care management support.

If a woman is still considering abortion at the end of her appointment, she is encouraged to stay in contact with Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic. She has an open invitation to continue the conversation.

“We just make it clear, ‘Hey, we know you’re still grappling with this decision,’” says Meredith, Client Services Manager. “‘You can come back anytime and just take another look.’” 

For Meredith, the work comes with a constant reminder of her own limitations. She and her team can extend all the resources and support a woman could need, but ultimately, each woman’s decision is her own. So, in the waiting, Meredith and staff pray.

“Okay, God,” says Meredith, “We just lay this person in Your capable hands. Because ultimately, I cannot change hearts and minds. Only God can do that.”

That confidence in God makes it possible for Two Lines’ staff and volunteers to care for clients without pressuring them into any one decision. Rather, they focus on building relationships by leading with compassion and trusting God with each outcome.

“I just tell them, ‘Look, I am here for you no matter what,’” says Meredith. “‘You can come and you can tell me the hard things, and I’m not going to freak out because I love you. We will work this through together.’”

Follow-Up Care and a Plan for What Comes Next

Starting with intentional communication, care for each client continues well beyond her first appointment. Two Lines follows up with each client at three days, three weeks, and 30 weeks after their first appointment, and again after the estimated date of delivery—whether the client returns a phone call and text or not.

“We feel like every touchpoint we can get with a client is really important when they’re facing these kinds of decisions,” says Meredith. “We’re really big into forming a relationship and forming trust early.”

For women who decide to continue their pregnancies, the next step with Two Lines is based upon their needs. It may be a simple early-pregnancy consultation, enrollment in a pregnancy or parenting education program, or a referral to care management. 

Education programs include Journeys and Connections/Conexiones. Through Journeys, women participate in a 20-week video education series designed for first-time moms and dads to guide them through the experience of pregnancy and parenthood. After their baby is born, parents can continue growing their parenting skills and establishing their own network of support through Connections or Conexiones, two-year programs that introduce them to other parents in similar situations and community resources. Connections is for English-speaking clients, and Conexiones is for Spanish-speaking clients.

Care management is provided by Two Lines social workers who help clients identify and navigate obstacles that may stand in the way of pregnancy and parenting. These obstacles can include figuring out insurance, finding employment or housing, or navigating situations involving domestic violence by connecting clients with appropriate resources, among many others. 

“We talk through whatever’s going on. We meet them where they’re at, and we let them know they’re not alone,” Meredith says.

Care After Abortion 

For some women, their pregnancy story includes abortion. As a life-affirming organization that leads with Christ-like compassion, Two Lines is prepared to meet these women with support through post-abortive care, providing an opportunity to process their experience and seek healing. This process may take time—sometimes years—before a woman feels prepared to talk about her abortion.

According to a 2014 survey published in the National Library of Medicine, 45% of patients reported having had a previous abortion. That statistic highlights why Two Lines’s willingness to remain present matters. A woman may have another pregnancy after an abortion, and having a trusted relationship in place could encourage her to take a different path forward.

Your Support Keeps Our Clinic Doors Open

Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic is a nonprofit medical clinic, fully funded by the generosity of donor support. Two Lines exists to encourage women and families facing an unexpected pregnancy to choose life by serving them before, during, and after pregnancy with Christ-like compassion. All services are provided free of charge to remove barriers that would prevent women and families from getting the care they need to walk through their pregnancy crisis with support. 

Donor giving makes every part of the care Two Lines provides possible, from that first critical appointment to every medical service and education program so Two Lines can keep showing up as a trusted resource. Faithful donor giving ensures that no woman facing an unexpected pregnancy ever has to walk alone.

“I wish all donors could see the difference between when a woman comes in here for her first appointment and when she walks out of that first appointment,” says Meredith. “It’s really a look of relief on their face that they’re able to talk things through and they’re able to make a plan.”

Thank you for making this ministry possible. Together, following Christ’s example in the care we give, we want to make abortion unthinkable.

“The most helpful intervention here at Two Lines is understanding that I’m enough.” 

Long before Chandler ever walked through the doors of Two Lines, she was carrying pain.

Pain from growing up too quickly. Pain from loss. Pain from feeling alone.

“My mom left us,” Chandler shared. “My dad was always working and worked two full-time jobs.”

As one of six children, Chandler learned early how to survive difficult seasons. She worked tirelessly in school, eventually earning a full-ride scholarship to college. 

“I had a lot of choices to make,” she said. “Not all of them were the right choices. I slipped through the cracks.”

She left college after her first year and soon found herself navigating adulthood largely on her own. Not long after, she experienced her first unexpected pregnancy.

At first, she was excited.

“I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’m going to be a mom.’”

That joy turned to sadness when she miscarried.

Then, almost exactly one year later, Chandler discovered she was pregnant again and experienced a second miscarriage.

By the time she became pregnant with her daughter years later, fear had become familiar.

“When I found out I was pregnant with her, it was the most terrifying thing I could have ever found out.”

A Place That Didn’t Require Perfection

It was Chandler’s older sister who first encouraged her to visit Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic.

The next day, Chandler walked in. No appointment. No plan. No certainty about what she needed.

“That’s what got me,” Chandler said. “I didn’t have to set up an appointment and you guys were willing to help me anyways.”

What she found inside was more than medical care. She found people willing to listen.

She remembers sitting with members of the Two Lines team and sharing the fears, barriers, and practical struggles she was facing. Financial instability. Relationship stress. Questions about whether she was capable of building a healthy future for herself or her baby.

Immediately, support began surrounding her.

Resources were shared. Emails followed up. Connections were made.

Beyond the practical support, something deeper happened every time she returned.

“Every single time I would come back,” Chandler said, “somebody was over here telling me how I am loved no matter what I do and no matter where I am.”

That kind of care reflects the heart behind Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic’s mission: to meet women with Christ-like compassion and hope in the middle of difficult moments that surround unexpected pregnancy.

Support That Continued Beyond One Appointment

Over time, Chandler continued building a relationship with Two Lines through ongoing support and parenting education programs designed to equip mothers for success.

That consistency mattered.

For Chandler, healing did not happen all at once. It happened slowly through reminders that she was seen, supported, and not alone. Then came another unexpected pregnancy.

This time, Chandler and her boyfriend felt overwhelmed by the realities in front of them. Financially, they felt unprepared, and emotionally disconnected. Parenting another child felt impossible.

“We were both on the fence about having an abortion,” Chandler shared.

Once again, they returned to Two Lines. Not because someone pressured them. Not because someone demanded a decision. They returned because they knew they would be met with compassion.

“They listened to all of the reasons,” she said. “They understood all of the reasons.”

In those conversations, Chandler experienced something that is increasingly rare in today’s world: people willing to create space for fear, questions, and honesty without judgement. Two Lines staff shared truth gently with Chandler and prayed with her.

“It was the most caring form of, ‘I understand what you mean, and I’m not going to push your decision.’”

Inside those sacred spaces, Chandler and her boyfriend found room to breathe. Slowly, hope began replacing fear.

“This Baby Has Intention”

Throughout her pregnancy, Chandler kept hearing the same message repeated by people around her: “This baby has intention.”

At first, those words felt difficult to believe but over time, they became an anchor.

“And hearing that,” Chandler said, “reassuring myself of that, and having that repeated over and over, it reminds me that I did it the first time. I can do it now.”

At Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic, truth becomes tangible through everyday moments of care: A conversation. A prayer. A follow-up appointment. A parenting class. A reminder that someone is here to walk with you.

“I Am Enough”

Today, Chandler is preparing to welcome her second child while continuing to raise her daughter with growing confidence and peace. When she reflects on what changed most through her relationship with Two Lines, her answer is immediate:

“The most helpful intervention here at Two Lines is understanding that I’m enough.”

Enough to care for her children. Enough to rest when exhausted. Enough to keep going. Enough to be present. Enough to be a mother.

“I am enough to do the dishes today,” she said. “I am enough to walk my daughter to the park. I am enough to take a nap when I’m exhausted.”

For women who have spent years believing they are failing, forgotten, or too broken, those words matter deeply. Stories like Chandler’s are only possible because of a community willing to walk alongside mothers through every stage of their journey. Through the generosity of donors, women receive no-cost medical care, practical resources, emotional support, and parenting education rooted in the love of Christ. Donor support and ministry partnerships make it possible for mothers to encounter hope long after their initial crisis has passed.

Because of faithful supporters like you, women like Chandler are discovering something life changing:

They are loved. They are capable. They are enough.

When the rain began falling on May 30, there was every reason to expect a smaller turnout at this year’s 2026 Walk for Life event.

Instead, something unexpected and beautiful happened.

Umbrellas opened. Families bundled together. Children splashed through puddles. Churches gathered. This year’s Walk for Life was a visible reminder and testament to the community that surrounds this ministry to ensure that no woman ever has to navigate an unexpected pregnancy alone.

Despite the weather, 925 people showed up to walk. More than 1,000 individuals had registered for the event, representing 100 churches across the Kansas City area. More than 200 children were registered to participate, and strollers filled the walking route throughout the morning. The event was also supported by 32 sponsors and 113 individuals who each raised more than $250 toward our mission.

These numbers are worth celebrating because of what they make possible—continued ministry outreach that provides life-affirming support and hope for a future.

Every Step Shows a Commitment to Empowering Moms and Dads to Choose Life

Walk for Life lasts a few hours. The impact lasts all year.

Every dollar raised helps ensure women have access to no-cost pregnancy services, STI testing, ultrasounds, education, and practical support when they need it most. It also helps Two Lines continue serving fathers, connecting families to community resources, and providing long-term support well beyond a client’s first appointment.

For many women, walking through the doors of Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic is the first step toward clarity during an overwhelming season. Some arrive feeling isolated and alone. Some are facing pressure to make a decision from partners, relatives, friends and coworkers. Others simply don’t know where to turn.

The support made possible through Walk for Life allows Two Lines to continue meeting each person with compassionate care, trustworthy medical services, and a community committed to walking alongside them.

Mercedes is just one of many individuals whose lives have been touched by this ministry and the community that faithfully stands behind it. At this year’s event, Mercedes courageously shared her story and the decision to take the first abortion pill that filled her with regret and ultimately introduced her to Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic. Two Lines was able to perform an ultrasound to determine how her baby was doing and immediately started her on the Abortion Pill Reversal treatment.

“Two Lines continued to help me and my family in more ways than I could have ever asked for,” Mercedes said. “Financially. Emotionally. Spiritually. Through prayers, support, and resources. They provided diapers and wipes when I had none, Christmas gifts for me and my children when I had nothing under our tree, assistance with bills when I was trying to get back on my feet, and support during moments where I genuinely didn’t know how I was going to make it through. But more than anything, they gave me clarity and peace in knowing that I was not going to have to walk through this alone.”

The rain may have been memorable this year, but so was the commitment of a community that showed up anyway. And because they did, women, like Mercedes, and families across Kansas City will continue receiving support long after the Walk for Life is over.

Providing a safe space for women and families facing unexpected pregnancies involves a great deal of effort beyond what clients can see. 

The Village Behind the Scenes

While staff and volunteer client advocates are often the most visible part of pregnancy center care, they do not carry this work alone.

Every sensitive conversation, every heartbeat revealed on an ultrasound, and every turnaround moment where a mother chooses life for her baby exists because of a broad network of supporters that faithfully give to the mission and ministry.  Donors, church partners, and community volunteers may never personally meet the clients Two Lines serves, but their generous contributions are woven into every moment of care.

Financial Support Makes Ongoing Care Possible

Every service at Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic remains free of charge thanks to individuals and organizations who give financial gifts, both big and small. Financial support helps fund the pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, and STI testing and treatment offered at clinic appointments, and ensures that long-term pregnancy and parenting support are available for those who choose to parent. 

“We couldn’t do this without the support of donors,” says Katie, Two Lines Client Advocate. “Before volunteering as a Client Advocate, you see the big picture. Now [as a client advocate] I see what happens in the weeds. We truly can’t do what we do without our donors.”

What many know is that as a medical clinic, Two Lines invites women to meet their babies through ultrasound, one of the most influential encounters that encourages a woman to consider the life growing within her. What may be less known, is that Two Lines doesn’t stop at a woman’s choice for life, but continues to walk with and empower her with the necessary resources, education, and financial support she needs to flourish.  A donation made to Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic is a gift that opens opportunities for women to receive accurate information, compassionate care, and practical support when they need it most.

Gifts of Time and Talent Extend Care Beyond the Clinic Walls

Volunteers play a vital role in the mission to encourage women and families facing unexpected pregnancy to choose life. Like Katie, many client advocates are volunteers who serve clients directly, walking alongside them through clinic appointments.  Others give their time by teaching parenting and pregnancy support classes. This includes Baby Prep 101, where clients learn about what to expect during pregnancy, and the Connections 2-year Parenting Program, where they explore life after pregnancy and begin building a support system through relationships with other parents. . 

Every volunteer contributes in a meaningful way with what they have and what they are able to do. Dedicated prayer volunteers regularly gather to pray for the clinic, its clients, and the ministry, while members of the Young Adults Network raise awareness and advocate for life within their social circles and communities. Whether teaching, praying, helping with office tasks  or serving at special events, volunteers are at the heart of Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic’s mission, sustaining an environment where clients feel seen, supported, and valued.

Church Partners Strengthen Long-Term Support

With Christ as the foundation of Two Lines’ ministry, church partners are essential to the mission. Through their partnership and engagement, churches not only sustain this work but also create opportunities for clients to experience the encouragement, relationships, and spiritual care found within a local church community. Churches also play an important role in long-term parenting programs and special events that celebrate and encourage moms and dads. Through initiatives like the Annual Christmas Party and Pamper the Moms, church partners remind families that they are not walking alone.

A Shared Mission

The work of Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic is truly a shared effort. Staff serve on the front lines upheld and strengthened by faithful donor, volunteer, and church partner support. One of the clearest pictures of this village of support can be seen at the annual Walk for Life, where hundreds of individuals come together to celebrate life, raise funds, and increase awareness about the mission of Two Lines. The event serves as a powerful visual representation and reminder that every woman who walks through the clinic doors is supported by an entire community committed to helping women, children, and families.

Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic exists as a resource for life because of a network of vital support that stands behind the ministry and is largely unseen. Two Lines is larger than any one individual.

While on their way to an appointment next door, a pregnant couple encountered an individual who shared that a clinic only steps away offers free sonograms. 

By this simple word of invitation, the couple turned and walked through the doors of Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic.

God Uses People to Open Up the Door to Hope 

Today, Meredith is Two Line’s Client Services Manager. At the time this podcast episode was recorded, she was managing the front desk as a client intake coordinator, one of the first individuals a person meets when they walk into Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic. 

On Episode 20 of the Hope Unplanned Podcast, Meredith shares how one unexpected encounter led to the next one in the sonogram room. Neither Meredith nor the couple knew what—or rather who—was waiting to meet them. 

Two heartbeats. Tiny, flickering, undeniable.

The couple had been grappling with the possibility of one child. Now there were two. The atmosphere in the room shifted. 

“I’m not even sure they heard anything I said after that sonogram,” Meredith says. “It was interesting because the guy of the couple said, ‘I don’t know if this is God or what.’ And I said, ‘yes, this is God; you can be assured it is, because He is a revealer of things.’”

The couple chose life for their twins.

The Good Work God Prepared for Her to Do

Before working at Two Lines, Meredith was a florist.

“Occasionally, people would talk to me about why they were buying flowers,” Meredith says. “And I just loved those interactions. I loved going straight to the heart.”

Floral design became a bridge to connecting Meredith with people going through tough times.  In that role, she discovered a calling and developing desire to become skilled and comfortable sitting with hurting people.

She began looking around for a job that could provide her with more purpose, which is how she came across the open position at Advice & Aid, now called Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic.

“I’ve always been so interested and drawn to people at crossroads,” Meredith says.

Meredith has been with Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic for four (4) years, and continues to prayerfully meet clients with compassion as they face all the different challenges they carry into their appointments.

“Hospitality is an invitation,” Meredith says. “One thing that has really astonished me since I’ve worked here is you never know what people are carrying around. So that welcome spirit—that invitation—is so important.”

In addition to Meredith’s ability to meet clients with calmness and compassion, her eye for arranging fresh flowers is something that she still uses today to bring life and beauty to the daily work at Two Lines.

The Walk for Life will take place on Saturday, May 30 at Two Lines Pregnancy Clinic (10901 Granada Lane, Overland Park, KS). There will be entertainment and activities for kids, food, games and prizes. Check-in and kids activities will begin at 8:00 a.m., and the two-mile Walk begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration opens April 1 and can be found on Two Lines’ Events page.

Registration is by donation and includes a free t-shirt! You can register as an individual or as part of a team and invite your friends, your church, businesses, or people you know to help reach your fundraising goal.

You can also become an official event sponsor. Sponsorships start at $500 and include recognition at the Walk in front of over 1,000 pro-life attendees. “Sponsorships are a great way to show your businesses’ pro-life support,” says Sarah L. Rose, Community Outreach Coordinator. Churches, businesses and individuals are all welcome to sponsor the walk. Sponsors make a huge difference—they create momentum and help us in a big way to reach our financial goal for the fundraiser. Kansas-based businesses who sponsor the walk may also eligible for a Kansas tax credit.
